Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about EpicSign and electronic signatures.

Most questions relate to three things: how the signature process proceeds, how identity is verified, and what the service costs. Below you will find answers to your most common questions.

EpicSign is a clear and secure electronic signature for businesses in Finland, Europe, and beyond.

Which signature method should I choose?

The choice depends on the risk level of the agreement and the location of the parties. In Finland, strong authentication and in other countries, passport identification are suitable for situations requiring a higher level of security. For international agreements, passport identification or email confirmation/light signature may be a more practical solution.

What is the difference between an electronic signature and an eIDAS seal?

An electronic signature expresses the signer's will to accept a document. An eIDAS seal is an organization's electronic stamp that can be used to emphasize the integrity and origin of a completed document.

Does implementing EpicSign require a separate project?

No, it doesn't. The service works directly in the browser, so you can create an account and send your first signature request in under 20 seconds.

How does the signature process proceed?

The sender adds the document and the email addresses of the signers. Recipients receive an invitation link by email, authenticate using their chosen method, and sign. The sender sees the status in real time.

    Does the recipient need credentials?

No. The recipient signs via an invitation link and does not need their own credentials for the service.

How is the document status checked?

Each signature request receives a unique identifier (UUID) with which the status can be publicly checked – without logging in.

What happens when package limits are exceeded?

In Free, Basic, and Pro packages, new signature requests cannot be sent before the next billing period or upgrading the package. In the Business package, excesses are billed at €0.95 / piece.

What does an eIDAS seal mean?

An eIDAS seal is an electronic seal compliant with the EU eIDAS regulation, which proves the integrity and origin of a signed document. It is equivalent to an organization's digital stamp.

What does the seal cost and how does it work?

The seal is an optional additional feature, costing €1.50 per document. The seal is added only to documents where you want a stronger electronic stamp based on an EU-approved certificate. Basic use does not require a seal.

    How do reminders work?

You can send reminders to signers who have not yet responded to the invitation. Reminders are available starting from the Basic package.

What is the difference between strong authentication, passport identification, email confirmation, and handwritten signature?

Strong authentication (bank identification/mobile certificate) provides a high level of identity assurance for supported domestic agreements. Passport identification works internationally as NFC or non-NFC based identification. Email confirmation is the lightest method – the signer's email address is verified. A handwritten signature is a drawn signature that requires separate email confirmation.

What file formats does EpicSign support?

EpicSign widely supports common file formats. Supported document formats: .pdf, .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .doc, .xls, .ppt, .odt, .ods, .odp, .rtf, .csv, .txt, .html, .htm, .odg, .odf. Supported image formats: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .tif, .tiff, .svg. Non-PDF files are automatically converted to PDF format before signing, allowing you to use existing files without separate manual processing.

Can I combine several files into one PDF to be signed?

Yes. By compiling a PDF package, you can add multiple files to the same signature package, arrange them in your desired order, and preview the result before saving. EpicSign saves the entirety as one PDF to be signed.

What are the benefits of combining files?

Often, attachments such as price lists or images need to be added to a contract or main document. You don't need a separate tool (e.g., Adobe Acrobat) if you want to combine files. You can do it directly in EpicSign before sending signature requests.

What files can be added to a PDF package?

You can add PDF files as well as other supported file formats. Non-PDF files are automatically converted to PDF format before saving the file.

Are there limits to compiling a PDF package?

Yes. A maximum of 13 files, 455 pages, and a total size of 19.5 MB can be added to one package. Password-protected PDF files cannot be added to the package.

In which packages is PDF package compilation available?

The feature is available in the trial version as well as in the Pro and Business packages. In the Free and Basic packages, the user will see an upgrade prompt.
