EU Digital Wallet (EUDI Wallet) – what does it mean for small businesses and digital signatures?
What is the EU Digital Wallet?
The EU Digital Wallet (EUDI Wallet) is a smartphone app where users can store their strong electronic identity, various credentials and the ability to sign documents electronically.
Where are we now?
Several large pilot projects are underway across the EU. In Finland, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency is building Finland's own EU digital wallet, planned for launch by the end of 2026.
What does this mean for small businesses?
Customers or employees can identify themselves the same way across the EU. For small business owners, this means easier access to customers in other EU countries and fewer country-specific login solutions.
Electronic signatures from the wallet
With the EUDI Wallet, users can sign contracts and other documents, and the signature works together with eIDAS rules. Business owners don't need to build the technology themselves – just choose a service that integrates with EUDI Wallet.
What should small business owners do now?
Monitor your software and check how they plan to support EUDI Wallet. Take care of the basics: strong identification, electronic signatures and electronic archiving.
